We kicked off at Brands Hatch on 8th & 9th April , nothing like throwing yourself in at the deep end! I'm not going to fluff this up, I was bricking it but the aim was to finish the race and learn from the experience and that is just what we did, i stayed on the track & upright. By the end of the weekend the pit crew had got into a rhythm and everyone knew what they were doing.
20th & 21st May - Mallory Park
Completely different set up on the pick up was required so it was all changed again and set up at home prior to the meet. WOW that was some fast pace racing with only a hundredth of a second between the drivers in 1st & 6th place.
17th & 18th June - Brands Hatch - American Speed Fest
This was a very big & busy meet attracting thousands of spectators and during the day we were all hounded by fans wanting our autographs and free promotional merchandise, it was all very exciting. We took 6 seconds off our lap time so we were very pleased.
8th & 9th July we were at home on the doorstep at Thruxton Circuit. It rained so lots of us chose to go out on slicks....... bit of a mistake but made for entertaining racing, there was some serious mishaps and accidents which we managed to stay away from, thankfully all drivers involved walked away with nothing more than bruised egos & wallets but it also meant that racing was abandoned after an alcove on the track couldn't be repaired on the day.
12th & 13th August - Donnington Park
This was our first race with the new gearbox, we had gone from a H pattern to a fully sequential gearbox - Massive learning experience. But that wasn't the only test we would see at this meet. Qualifying was horrendous where we battled with a persistent fuel leak & then a total brake failure! Bum twitching times..... We managed to get through qualifying just but on the completion of race 1 it was blatantly obvious i had a serious issue in the engine department, where i entered the pits with it knocking its t**ts off - so that was the end of that!
26th & 28th August - Lydden Hill 2 meets in one month with an engine which needed rebuilding by the race engine specialist was not ideal, it was a frantic rush with the engine being fitted and on the dyno the same day. We arrived at the circuit very late the night before the meet, all of us exhausted before we had even started, but we made it! We had a ten lap practice as this is a closed circuit so absolutely no other opportunity to get round it before hand. 5 laps into practice and boom the newly rebuilt engine had completely destroyed itself , honestly we were all gutted and in total disbelief. We got back to camp and the engine builders where on site so they got straight on with stripping it down to see what had happened, but nothing could be done to save the race meet on this occasion as it had blown a massive hole in the side of the casing.
7th & 8th October - Pembrey
One thing that is completely apparent in this sport is that despite your ability everyone helps each other lending people tools and parts to get back out there racing. Thankfully a very kind person took pity on us after 2 engines blowing up in one season, lending us a Pro 2 engine to complete the season, so we were back for Pembrey thanks to them.
4th & 5th November - Brands Hatch Firework Extravaganza
I think this had to be the wettest meet to date, it rained and rained and kept raining, but that didn't seem to faze the thousands of spectators which set up camp around the track to enjoy the show. This was our first time out on proper wet tyres and we didn't disgrace ourselves.
We finished the season Pro 2 Champions by default!
The highs and lows of motorsport - 2 engines blown up and a new sequential gearbox later....... Ouch....... the wallet is bare but we will be back for the 2024 season thanks to our loyal sponsors & team pick up #25.
